The Pillars Bridge Program
Our Bridge — or Transitional Early Two-year-old — classroom is designed to open the world of experiences and help your child begin the work of skill-building. A focus on communication, taking direction, and understanding routines is all part of our day. It’s an important time for children to grow in confidence and acquire social skills. Our Bridge classroom supports:
- Language development and early literacy skills
- Counting and learning math concepts
- Learning to be a helper
- Development of gross and fine motor skills
- Using utensils for eating and drinking from a cup
- Learning to problem solve
- Expanded physical play
Bridge Class Developmental Benchmarks
Our Bridge class focuses on specific developmental and spiritual benchmarks.
Reading/Language Arts/ Communication
- Responding to instruction (ex: bring me a book)
- Using 3-5-word sentences
- Locating body parts
- Holding a book upright and turning its pages
- Attempting to sing ABC’s
Mathematics
- Counting to 5 with help
- Showing interest in numbers/counting
- Beginning to use quantity phrases such as “more”
Health & Wellness
- Having a consistent schedule
- Eating nutritious meals
- Using utensils
- Being introduced to potty training
- Learning the class rules
- Learning to play in a safe environment
Physical Development
- Running
- Climbing
- Knocking over block towers
- Kicking stationary objects
- Going up and down stairs unassisted
- Playing with a ball by throwing and attempting to catch it
- Gaining control of movements including transitioning from sitting to standing, running, and jumping
- Using fingers to pick up smaller objects
- Learning to eat with utensils
- Putting a peg in a hole
- Adjusting grasp on different tools for different purposes (spoon, paintbrush)
Cognitive Development
- Playing and getting along with friends (ex: passing a toy back and forth)
- Learning to trust adults
- Saying “Hi” and “Goodbye” and blowing kisses
- Showing off work (demonstrating abilities)
- Observing and responding to emotions of peers
Spiritual Teaching Objectives
- The Bible is one big story that tells us about God.
- God made the earth and everything on it, including you!
- God loves you.
- Praying is how we talk to God.
- Singing is how we celebrate God.
- Jesus died on the cross to forgive us for our sins.
- We get to Heaven by believing in Jesus – who He was and what He did for us.
